Prof. Ravi Prakash Gorthi

Ravi Prakash Gorthi is currently an Hon Adjunct – Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at LNMIIT, Jaipur. He has an unique combination of IT industry experience of about 25 years (with TCS, IBM, Infosys) and academic experience of about 17 years (with IIT, Madras and LNMIIT) and brings to bear his rich industry experience into his teaching and research.
He holds a doctoral degree from IIT, Madras, a master’s degree from IIT, Kanpur (both in CSE) and bachelor’s degree in ECE from the College of Engineering, Kakinada. He was a top ranked student throughout his education.
He was a Research Fellow in the Engineering Design Research Centre of Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh for an academic year.
At LNMIIT, Prof Gorthi contributed to it in its formative years of growth by discharging the services of HOD of CSE, Dean of Academic Research, Dean of Faculty Affairs and Dean of Academic Affairs. Besides many smaller contributions, one of his principal contributions to LNMIIT was his leadership role of a large team that undertook the assessment by and award of ‘A’ grade by NAAC in 2016
He has been a favourite teacher among the students and knowledgeable adviser to younger colleagues. He has around 25 research publications in international, national conferences and journals in the areas of Artificial Intelligence and Software Engineering. On Teachers’ Day, 2020, he won “Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Teachers’ Excellence Award”, a pan-India award. He and his wife actively participate in social welfare activities of LNMIIT campus.
Before joining LNMIIT in the year 2010, Dr Gorthi was a Principal Researcher with the research lab of Infosys at Bangalore for more than six years. He led the Software Engineering research team there that holds four granted patents (with Dr Gorthi as a Principal Investigator) in the area of model based test data generation. He and his team designed and developed a tool that automates test data generation with a huge productivity improvement factor. Dr Gorthi was an internationally renowned expert in ‘Business Rules Management Systems (BRMS)’ and offered consultancy to some of the Fortune-500 companies in USA, Europe and Australasia.
Dr Gorthi was a Vice President of Product Engineering of a start-up organization of Silicon valley for a little over three years. This start-up made an attempt to use AI techniques in generating middleware adapters for inter-process calls of heterogenous IT systems. While he and his team gained rich technical experience, the start-up failed to secure second-round funding and wound-up. Dr Gorthi was a Group Technical Manager with IBM, India and offered AS/400 Software Product (OS, RDBMS related) services to IBM clients in India, Asian and Gulf countries. At TCS, he was a part of teams that designed, developed or maintained large sized IT applications. He learnt many foundational aspects of software engineering while he worked on projects in New Zealand, the Netherlands, Switzerland and India.
In recent years, Prof. Gorthi has served as a member of Faculty Selection Committee, Doctoral Review Committee, Board of Academic Studies, etc. of other Engineering Institutions in Rajasthan. He was a Keynote Speaker at a few national level Conferences. He was a Steering Committee member of India Software Engineering Conference (ISEC) series and hosted ISEC-2010 at Infosys, Mysore and ISEC2017 at LNMIIT, Jaipur. He was an active member of Toastmasters International, Bangalore Club from 2002 to 2010 and held various executive positions such as VP of Membership, VP of Public Relations, etc. He was a teaching assistant of Leadership Development Programs of Landmark Education, Bangalore. He has been an active member of a Vedic Philosophy (online) study group and has recently published a paper at the prestigious International Conference of World Association for Vedic Studies. Ravi Gorthi visited more than 25 countries (some of them many times) all over the world on professional work or personal vacation.
